The CA coast is amazing in the wintertime, and we know that many of you are already planning to come out to California before the wedding or to stay around afterwards and explore the area. That’s great, and please call us if you want suggestions, tips, etc.

Many of you are only going to be up in Boonville for the weekend, and we thought we’d give you some information about some of the great things to do while you’re in town. There will be plenty of time to lounge about the hotel, take hikes, drive around, or just sit in the hammocks and take nap, so we thought we’d give you some links to get you excited:

Hiking, Walking, Exploring

Walk around Boonville. It’s a funny little town, and you can spend a good afternoon getting to know it.

Visit Hendy Woods State Park. There’s an amazing park filled with giant redwood trees, about 10 minutes up the road from Boonville. It’s within walking distance of the Apple Farm, where some of the guests are staying. Check here for more info.

Drinking, Sipping, Tasting

Visit some Anderson Valley Wineries. The wines from this area are starting to get a lot of attention, and if you haven’t done the California wine testing thing, this is a good way to go. The area is a lot less pretentious than Napa and Sonoma, and you can hit a bunch of places just up the road from where you’re staying. Navarro Vineyards is well-known and a great place to start, and we like Lazy Creek Vineyards a LOT. For more information, check the Anderson Valley Winegrowers Association website.

Visit the Anderson Valley Brewing company in Boonville. If you’re more of a beer person, you can have a hell of a lot of fun in town at the AV Brewing Company – home of Boont Beer and a half dozen other brews. It’s a cool place. Check here for more.

Driving, Winding, Gasping

Head to the coast. If you haven’t driven Highway 1 along the coast, you need to go. Highway 128 and Anderson Valley eventually open up onto the sandy beaches at the mouth of the Navarro River, and then empties into the Pacific Ocean. You can drive down Highway 1 to great small towns like Elk, or if you have a little more time, go up 1 to Mendocino. Amazing, amazing places.

Sleeping, Relaxing, Lounging

Get a massage at the Boonville Hotel. There is actually a massage studio on the premises. Liza’s dad, Bill, promises not to monopolize it. Call 707.895.2210 if interested.

Do some yoga. Half of the women in attendance could qualify as yoga instructors. There will likely be some spontaneous yoga practice at some point.

Relax at the Boonville Hotel. There are big chairs, some nice books and magazines, huge fireplaces, a few sizeable bathtubs, and the most comfortable beds. The holidays are always stressful. You can recover and recharge this weekend.
